Week 20 and another Assessment.
Tonight was another night I was dreading! A full set of tips with Pink & Whites. Oh and a bit of Nail Art thrown in 🙂
My trustworthy client returned again this evening to have a full set applied to her lovely nails. And lovely they were. Considering I have abused her poor nails for the last few weeks, she returned to me with her previous set of acrylics removed and lovely nails in return. I almost felt bad getting to work on them – in the real world I would have recommended a paraffin wax or hot oil treatment. Something to nourish her cuticles, but for selfish reasons, a full set she was having.
Anyone who knows me – and I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, knows I love a good natter. But as before, tonight was not the night for talking I had a set to complete in 2 hours!
First up, I remembered to take a before pic, here they are.
As you can see, there is no visible damage, they are as expected a little weak and thinning, as I said under any other circumstances I would have avoided applying another set on top. Her right hand ring finger seemed especially thin so I did the minimal prep work on this nail to avoid sensitisation occurring, I don’t expect it to last the next 2 weeks, but I’d rather that then do any long term damage.
Applying my set this evening was a real challenge, I really do think my monomer has gone through some chemical changes, I just can not get my beads right at the minute. I had a little talk to my tutor about this and we concluded that perhaps I was holding liquid in my brush but after blotting my brush I then found I had no liquid to help with molding?!
My first hand was awful, so lumpy and bumpy, it reminded me of the first whole set of pink and whites I did just before Christmas, I knew my work was going to be cut out for me when it came to filling.
It was worth it though, here is my finished result
I must admit I was not too happy with my smile lines, I know I can do much better then this, but I am pleased with the shine, what you see in the pictures was achieved with files only, no UV Gel top coat here 🙂
And the result…. I passed!
It means I am now proficient in Acrylic Overlays, Infills, and Tip Application, my client will be back in 2 weeks for a re-balance, she won’t exactly need one, but for the purposes of qualifying I need to do one 🙂
Also for this evening was our last Nail Art assessment. I have actually already completed the 10 mediums we need to be assessed on, so for this evening I did something really simple.
I wanted to to some strips and gems, but we came up with this simple design instead. I’m not sure how visible it is to you in the picture but I have applied glitter particles just under the whites of her nails. They are really reflective so more eye-catching in real life.
And so that’s it, another week over with, it now means I only have 4 weeks left of my course!
