Nail Art – My First Criticisms….

They say there’s a first for everything. Well this month was my first experience of negative criticism regarding some Nail Art I did.

The Target… This piece

If you follow me you’ll know I’ve signed up to manicure box subscription service. A little background on this… I pay £15 a month and a little package is delivered to me containing 3-4 polishes A treatment/topcoat/base coat & a tool. Pretty cool huh?

As well as writing a little review on the box contents & showing swatches of the colours, I also try & do some nail art showcasing each colour.

The above picture was my ‘Showcase’ for Nails Inc Colville Mews. Now I had already seen a lot of other people’s work with this colour, mainly of the stamping & floral kind, so has that had already been accomplished I wanted to try something different, so I went with this…

I’ll admit at first I wasn’t keen, but the longer I wore it the more it grew on me. I adore this colour, unfortunately this colour does not like me, I find it makes me very washed out & pale.

Anyway the wonderful people at Nailbox decided they liked it too as I ended up on their News feed!!

As someone who spent a long time putting off social media as a way to show my nail art, for me this was a BIG  deal. I hate attention, but at the same time I’m now in the business where I guess I now need to get myself out there – conflicts hey??

Well although this design was growing on me & Nailbox seemed to like it, other people didn’t & were quite open to giving their opinion….

I won’t divulge comments, but let’s just say my heart dropped reading them. I looked up some of the people who had left a comment & was abit dis-hearted in learning they were nail professionals too…. Not all, just some.

We all know Art has it controversies, it’s quite nice to know currently I have 12 likes for that piece of work & one very amazing nail professional who stood up for me – I sent her a private message thanking her too.

My point with all this is, has much as their comments left me gutted & abit downhearted at first, I then was left frustrated at not knowing why?….

Was it the combination of colours? My application? The colour against my skin tone? My cuticle condition?….

Remember my aim with the manicure box is to create nail art solely with the colours provided.

My advice to anyone commenting on nailart – or mine at least – I’d love to know why a piece of work didn’t work for you? I can’t grow & evolve If I’m not learning & taking on advice at the same time 😀 I am a sponge for knowledge especially as I’m still slowly getting back into the swing of things.

I won’t let this dishearten me – sticks & stones you know… I’m glad to know some fabulous supporters of what I do & who have encouraged me throughout my Nail Technician Training. 💅

Too finish off I’ve got the other two designs from the colours of last months Nail Box. Plus another attempt of nail art with Colville Mews – yep I’m pretty certain this colour does not like me lol 😆

Sorry for the picture quality showing this amazing red from Tany Burr, it was so glossy my camera had a hard time focusing 😬

And here we have attempt number 2, the striping tape being from my own collection. x

I hope for anyone who receives criticism for something they do, doesn’t let it get to them, keep trying & pursuing your dreams. All the greats were once rejected Walt Disney, JK Rowling, Steve Jobs, keep going & you could end up great too 😀

What a shame people feel the need to be so negative. Well done on being chosen by nailbox, that’s quite the accolade so take heart from the fact they liked your work.
I was taught that if you have nothing nice to say, then you should keep quiet.
I love your work & blog so keep it up, don’t let the naysayers get to you. Maybe there’s a bit of professional jealousy going on.
    Keep smiling!

Aww thanks for your support. 😀 Your comment is so lovely & definitely something to be positive about. You can never please everyone, but it’s nice to know you can please some x

I remember the first time that happened to me. I felt exactly the same as you did. Devastated! And like you, I investigated that person and found almost all her comments were negative to anyone she posted on. I feel sad for people that post negative comments. Imagine only being able to see negative things. Including Art! Keep doing it your way, and enjoy the ride! 🙂

I did just that too!! I looked into all of them that’s why I was most gutted to see some were Nail Techs too. I have so much support within the Nail Community during my training it came as a shock. It’s so unfortunate that it happens, I can’t believe you’ve experienced it too!! I’m thankful to know professionals like yourself who promote encouragement & are supportive, those are the opinions I value the most 😀 x
